Whether you’re a broke college student looking for a study break or just looking to explore Lincoln’s art scene, here are some ways to bring out your creative side without breaking the bank.
At Paint Yourself Silly, you’ll be provided with the pottery and paint of your choice. Pick your piece of pottery, paint it, and leave it to be fired in the kiln. ADMISSION IS FREE! Sheldon Museum of Art has provided a venue for community members to engage with art for over 50 years. Their exhibits often change with the University’s academic semesters so there is always something new! The current exhibit on display is “For Freedoms: In the future days….”

Through Corky Canvas’ website, you can pick a location (Omaha or Lincoln), select one of their painting events, then “grab a drink and apron” as a local artist guides you through the class. Complete with classes, workshops, exhibits, and parties, there are plenty of things to do at Lux Center for the Arts! Classes range from figure sketching to pottery creation. According to the LUX About page on their website, they say that their Art Van “takes art classes to at-risk youth, low-income schools, cancer patients and others that benefit from having a first-hand art experience.” They host more than 18 shows a year featuring artists from across the country.

Whether you like comedy, musicals or symphonies, the Lied Center for Performing Arts has it all! Season or single event tickets can be purchased online or at the box office. They offer a wide variety of shows and performances free to UNL students. Urban Legends offers an interactive art studio where you can bring out your inner creativity through guided classes. They offer parties on acrylics, alcohol inks, door hanger art, jewelry, and much more! There are also private lessons available as well.
